Squash is the only racquet sport in which both the players stand facing the same direction. In it, the players take turns to hit the ball on the wall in front of them. A rally of shorts begins when the server, standing in one of the court boxes, hits the ball directly onto the front wall to rebound in the opposite half of the court behind the "short" line. One foot of the server must be completely behind the left or right service box.

The player have a choice of hitting the ball directly after it rebounds from the wall or after one bounce, but the ball must be hit before the second bounce. This is the basic difference between squash and tennis. The rules for the squash are that a match consists either three or five games each of nine points. The first player to reach nine points wins the game, only the server can score a point and changeover of service is effected when the server loses the service or subsequent rally.
