Today, competitive running events make up the core of the sport of athletics.
Running races are simply contests to determine which of the competitors is able to run a certain distance fastest.
Events are usually grouped into several classes, each requiring substantially different athletic strengths and involving different tactics, training methods, and types of competitors.
There are different categories for running like:
Track running, in which the athletes competes by running in purposely build tracks.

It takes place in different parts such as 100m, 200m, 400m and other similar groups.
Marathon running, in it the participants have to cover very large distances (in km).
For such races the athletes have to practice a lot and really work hard to build their stamina.
Hurdle running, in this some hurdles are placed in between the running tracks, which are cleared by the athletes by jumping over them.
